Character Creation XP counter is out

So, I've been working on a character, but when I go to save, it has told me that I'm either short or over the 300 xp when I go to save and have not changed any of his numbers. ... So... not sure what's going on there.

Currently, my draft character is at 315 xp, as I calculated before I went to save, and then complied with the website and added the extra 15 points.

Adding on my findings...

Something similar happened to me when I went to create a new character as well.

Short Description: I encountered a slight bug with how the skills seemed to be counting spent points.

Browser: Chrome
Version: Version 67.0.3396.99 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Computer / Interface: PC

Are you logged in when you do this? Yes

Steps to replicate:

0) Starting from URL: http://untoldpaths.com/node/15614/edit
1) Step one: I had four skills saved as placeholders (little to no info or points on them)
2) Step two: I saved the character sheet yesterday and was told that I had a min maxed build and I planned to revise.
3) Step three: I noticed that the numbers seemed to be a bit lower than a normal starting character that I normally make so I started to edit the character.
4) Step four: I deleted the fourth skill which had been a zero point skill placeholder.
5) I got the error message: You have spent 180 out of 300 points. You have more points to spend. Please revise your sheet.

What you expected: Just playing around with a new character (I'm always terrible with numbers so I didn't notice anything unusual at first in terms of the notes I normally get).
What you got: It looked almost like the skill points seemed to count a lot higher than normal. After deleting the placeholder skill, it seems to be acting more normally.

Other patterns:
a) Does this seem to happen only during certain times of day? No
b) Only in certain locations? On my draft character sheet
c) Only on specific characters? Which ones? The new character

EDIT: I poked around a bit more and it seems to be just tied to something numerical rather than the total number of skills. I'm super sorry that I can't figure out what's causing some numbers to seem to shift the number totals more than others. But if I can actually be of (real) help in any way please let me know. I'm happy to do more poking to try to see what's causing it if you'd like me to. :)

Unable to reproduce - So far

I was able to submit two new characters without experiencing this bug.

Used CHrome Version 67.0.3396.99 (Official Build) (64-bit)
On Windows 10 Home 64btit

I was able to create a character save to draft an then submit
I was able to create a character and directly submit.
Spent an even 30 points in 7 stats and 3 skills so no warning messages (See below for test involving min maxing alert)
None of the numbers were changed during submission

Will try and make a new character and let it sit to see if it will trigger the same error.

For now I would recommend doing the following:

Use your current drafts to compelete the character concept
Add in something like Draft to the name so you know not to submit that one.

Once you are sure you have the correct numbers and stats,
Go to create new character page
Copy the information over
Double check your numbers only add up to 300,
then hit submit to see if you still get that error or not.

if you get it again,

and this is the super important part in order to help find what may be causing this bug,
Just like ladyk did above go through and log each and every step you took creating the character
Think of every detail, even little things such as:
Did you hit the back button?
Was you bouncing between two tabs?
Did you spam click the submit button?
Every little thing.

Ladyk's error

I was able to get something similar to ladyk's error only when I had left out a required field.

I had 225 pts in the character stats which gave the min max warning
I left the background empty on purpose
Hit save for a draft
was given this error: https://s26.postimg.cc/5lmbg4d8p/charactercreationalert.png
It appeared to not be counting the skills in that

I added text to background,
Minmaxing alert saved
But was still able to sumbit with no changes to numbers as both draft and submitted

This means my recommendation is still valid to try and get your characters done.

Awesome!

Thank you so much for helping to nail this down! I'm going to try submitting all at once on a new sheet rather than multiple revisions and I bet that'll fix the issue. :D Thank you thank you!

Not sure if that's my issue

I say that because I double checked how long I've had my draft character and it's been 2 years now. I've made changes to it before I started on this new concept and never had any issue. New bug on an old sheet. Might have something to do with the changes that have happened?

.

That is why I suggested copying to new sheets and adding in draft to the ones giving this issue so it can be investigated later and in the meanwhile you can make the new characters.

I'll double check the list of

I'll double check the list of cost of stats against the numbers. The only major change lately to the sheets have been removing the derived stats. So if the character predates that change - that could be causing the confusion. So, yeah, copy over the character and see if that resolves the issue.

I noticed a pattern!

Ok, so what I noticed that I was doing on mine. Since I have done a bunch of updating to the sheet since posting this to begin with. When that error was occurring, I had added a skill slot, but then removed it without making any changes to that skill slot that I had. With all of the additional changes that I did, I didn't add skill slots and then remove them, but added additional skills.

Thank you!

Doing it all in one go as suggested worked perfectly. I made sure that I had the numbers and everything in place so that I wouldn't have any warning messages, and it all saved/submitted perfectly. Thank you both so very much!

Well then....

So, I managed to submit the original sheet, but I didn't get the "You're character has been submitted." message never came up. Character was kicked back to me for the rearranging of some numbers. I went to make the changes, took 10 points out of one stat to put them in one of the skills, but when I went to try and submit it again, it said that I had 290 out of 300, but then I put another 20 points into skills, but the site still said that I had spent only 290 points of 300 and wouldn't let me submit.

So, I copied everything over to a new sheet and got that to work.

Could I get the draft Takota deleted please?
