Question: What happened to the Ramsalon Army

Earlier in Limbo was asked this question by Sean

Zxe, I read the quarterly reports and that answered some of my questions that I must have missed when reading them before, and maybe I missed it in there or somewhere else, but I'm curious what the current state of the army is in Ramsalon? If there is no more castle to barracks the troops, where are they training? Is there a temporary camp for the SI military presence there? I see that the city guard is doing a lot of stuff but not much about the whereabouts of the army.

Answer to What Happened to the Ramsalon Army

The city of Ramsalon does not have an army.

Any historical mention of a Ramsalon Army is being counted as a reference to a specific branch of the Vaxia Empire Army, aka the Iron Army, that was based out of Ramsalon. So technically Ramsalon did not have its own army, they were all still part of the Iron Army.

Some were killed during the Naga Nori War when Shi Inkahan invaded. Those that survived either stayed loyal to the Vaxia Empire and was banished with the rest to what remaining territory they managed to keep in the Argonn Arpeggio, however a few members broke their loyalty away from the Vaxia Empire and swore fealty to the Shi Inkahan Empire. Those former army members would be given an opportunity to join the Ramsalon Guard, though at lower ranks once their loyalty was proven.

All the top positions of authority within the Ramsalon Guard are filled by members of the Shi Inkahan Army. There are some Ramsalonians that occupy some of the lower officer ranks, but they are few these days.

The Shi Inkahan Army runs the Ramsalon Guard, and makes use of all the Guard facilities within the city. There is also a heavy presence of the Shi Inkahan Army around the Kanestronia Cathedral where the Shi Inkahan Court has made their seat of power, so some stay within there as the place is under extremely heavy guard 24 hours, 7 days a week. Other lesser nobles of Shi Inkahan may house small personal units that are part of the Shi Inkahan Army in a part of their own home, keeping some security close to them just in case.

Ramsalon Guard Barracks - The main headquarters and training area. Located in a section of Haven Croft acting as a barrier between the district and the ruins of the Congreth Kane Crater.

Hey Zxe, what sort of artillery is available in Vaxia? Do they have cannons, or are they still using things like ballista?

Anser to What types of artillery are in Vaxia.

It is kind of summed up here:
http://vaxia.org/wiki/vaxia-frequently-asked-questions
Under the What kind of technology exists in Vaxia? section.

Quote:
Most gunpowder related technology has been kept to the form of just explosives.
Firearm related technology has not evolved past the most primitive levels as such the hand canon or fire lance. This is due to that such weapons have proven a bit impractical with the existence of magic, as a magically imbued bolt or arrow are easy to come by, just as devastating, and much more accurate, without the risks usually involved in firearm manufacturing. So you won’t find any muskets or pistols in the setting.

What much of the setting would likely refer to as a canon would be modified catapults or ballistas that are designed to handle magically enchanted ammunition or explosive ammunition, and even that handle both. Magic has kind of already undergone that trial and error stage for weapons designs and is widely available. It is also highly versatile as well, so in essence magic has kind of replaced gunpowder tech in that aspect.

Clockwork technology has likely contributed to this as well, as that is often easily mixed with magic as well for more umph as needed, but clockwork tech (aka think a more earlier stage of steam punkish really) can also replicate that in some forms with the launching of magic or explosive (or both) ammo.
