History

    Origins
The Black City of Ramsalon has stood in place since the days of the first Emperor, Kane Foraiya, who founded it shortly after the Cataclysm. He did not set the first stone, however. Kanestronia Cathedral was there first. But all the same, the throne has been sitting there for millennia, and with command of land and sea around it, the so called Iron Empire, the Black Empire of Vaxia, had conquered pretty much everything in sight - until the Darkest Night.

    Darkest Night year: 2998
The Darkest Night was one of the largest invasions Ramsalon ever saw. The Black Oil Plague, the armies of Westgrom, the Whirler's mechanical golems, Zombies Necromos earthquakes, floods, and sinkholes all struck at the same time, devastating the city and killing untold thousands.

The landscape of the city was change drastically as the quakes caused the south east section of the land to rise up on cliffs which caused the Craw Fang river's flow was diverted more westward which caused flooding of some sections of the city.

Fear and paranoia took hold of those ruling the city, setting into motion some restricting laws. Huge fortifying walls were built around the city, Congreth Kane Castle was built on the new risen bluff in south east end where Shanty Town once was, over looking the gulf and city. The Automatons were created from the remains of Whirler's mechanical golems to help police the population.

The Second Orc War year: 3002
Four years after the Darkest Night devastated Ramsalon, Necromos attempted to attack the Vaxian Empire once more by disrupting the tournament and opening a portal to let his forces flood the city. His efforts were thwarted by heros of the city. Then First General and acting Emperor Razzine lead the Iron Army to retaliate against Necromos for the attack and to put a stop to him once and for all. Their forces were bolstered by some of the empire's allies of the time the wood clan, groups from Shi Inkahan and Candenord that recognized the threat Necromos posed to the world, and many others that resided near Ramsalon and had been affected by the continuous assaults and wanted to end it. The forces marched straight to Meribor and faced Necromo's gathered army that consisted of groups of Orcs Nethar and Undead that he had rallied to his side one way or another.

Both sides were loosing many to what would seem to be an endless conflict, as for each one of Necromos's forces was kille he would just raise them once more as an undead. However Necromo's soon became exhausted as some heroes took the fight right to him and he was forced to flee. In his absence his forces became scattered and the Iron Army slaughtered what they could get their hands on and razed the very land of Meribor in their vengeance. Which set the tone for later tensions and conflicts with other Nethar and Orc groups that had no connection to Necromos, and a time of fear and paranoia for the city of Ramsalon.

This was the height of a kind of tyranny in the city as a registration act was imposed on the people of Ramsalon where certain magics and species were deemed dangerous and demonized and had to be found out in order to protect the city and empire. Anyone that fell into those categories has to surrender to a very invasion mind scan to determine just how much of a threat they were, should they survive and prove they would not turn against the empire they were forced to carry around an enchanted card that allowed them to be tracked at all times. GHOUL was founded and built over the ashes of Ghuungador as there was those that sought to flee the oppression taking hold in Ramsalon. However the Emperor twisted it into an opportunity for his own agenda and stronged armed GHOUL to work with the empire, giving them a place to send anyone he thought was trouble to purify his city and allowing better enforcement of the registration act. Later Victory City was founded as valuable resources were discovered and Ramsalon would send its caught criminals to work the mines making it a prison camp.

    Naga Nori War year: 3013
The battle in Ramsalon was one of the last strikes during the war between the Shi Inkahan and Vaxian Empires. It took place over a week and left not only some drastic political changes as the Shi Inkahan Empire ousted the Vaxian Empire effectively taking control over their territories on the continent, but also the battle itself was devastating to the city. Several parts of the wall had been destroyed by both sides. The automatons caused havoc on the populace as the Shi Inkahan forces protected themselves from their aura reading abilities. The Royal Labs unleashed several horrors right into the city with little care of the people caught in-between. The Vaxian Empire resorted to burning down entire sections of communities to try and smoke out the Inkahani's. Lastly the contingencies of those working for the Vaxian' Empire to try and take back the city meant to completely wreck it as several explosions tore through the city destroying much of it. A sinkhole swallowed a couple of blocks of Shinkatown, Congreth Kane Castle burned to the ground and then later collapsed into a crater as the secret Royal Labs facility under it self destructed. Though the people and the Inkahani's held out and survived, which resulted in the Vaxian Empire being banished to the Argonn Arpeggio.

Once the dust settle the Shi Inkahan began making efforts to repair Ramsalon, keeping the city as its base of operations for their newly acquired Vaxia continent territories. While much of the city has been repair, it still bears its scars as even more so as relations between the Shi Inkahan Empire and the people of Ramsalon get tested now and then.

Population and Society

While Ramsalon has historically been a city founded by humans, its population is one of the most diverse in all the continent. Nearly every species walks its roads presently, though there are some tensions between some groups as past conflicts and attitudes still are present. Nethar and Orcs tend to get a lot of looks as the city had been ransacked by groups of those species that were once in league with Necromos. The paranoid tendencies of the last Vaxian Empire ruler left a taste of distrust of anything they did not know and small pockets of the population continue those trends. In many areas of the city there are many examples of culture blending due to the many immigrants that do come to Ramsalon, as well as the extensive trade businesses that export items from around the world.

The society of the city has a hierarchy of social status based off of primarily wealth, and it is even reflected in the zoning of the city's districts.

The nobility of the city are simply the richest of the population. Historically these nobles never had any real influence in the governing of the people as the Vaxian Emperor's power and authority was absolute. Had any noble attempted to challenge the government they would soon find their property and wealth seized. This made for a very delicate relationship between the nobility and its government, and is the source of much tension between the nobles and the rest of the population. As the rest of the citizens perceived their nobility as simply catering to the whims of the government. A few nobles did try without getting too much attention from the government to improve what they could when they could. For those that dig enough there are stories of a handful of nobles that did attempt to start amassing some sort of military power as a move to try and get some kind of influence, only to end up dead.

Though with now with the Shi Inkahan Empire in place, what remaining nobility are trying to get into the political game especially as there are nobility from Shi Inkahan immigrating to Ramsalon and other newly acquired territories to see what opportunities there are. Which has started to cause even more strain on the relationship of the people to the nobility of Ramsalon.

The mighty fortress used to guard the approach of Ramsalon from the ocean, as well as providing a safe retreat for the citizens should the city be invaded. It used to home to many lavish estates that the richest of Ramsalon have built to live in, or treat as business retreats. Though at the end of the Naga Nori War the castle was left to burn to the ground and then the smoldering remains of the castle collapsed into the cavern left by the Royal Labs facility that self destructed under it. Currently this area is off limits to anyone as it is still unstable and hazardous as there are many extremely dangerous things lurking in the hole.

  • Beth Bow is located in the north central part of Ramsalon, just east of the Crawfang River and Common Flats. Much of it is considered to the poorest district in all of Ramsalon, as many of its poor and displaced citizens get relocated there to try and rebuild. After the dead rose up during the Darkest Night, Razzaine had the graveyard, along with some of the surrounding area, effectively paved over and replaced with tenement housing for the city's poorest citizens, relocated from Shanty Town. Wareish considers Jessica's

Wareish considers Jessica's suggestion of the Red Sky,
taking a minute to put the picture in his mind - it had been perhaps one of the first places he'd bedded down in that day the mushroom men came attacking the docks, but the Druid had moved on to other venues in the search for more information. Once he was sure of it, he nods.
Moreaaiwe's encouragement of eavesdroppers adds another vote.

With Sephtis being the only one whose first encounter with the matters being this very eve, Wareish has no trouble coming to a decision.

Very well, the Red Sky it is, then. We can discuss the nature of what's going on, or the lack thereof. Perhaps the din of the sailors in their revelry will keep our conversation well in its own bubble. I'd hate for rumors to ruin more of the harvest than the matter already has... said, with a glance toward the shrinking/burning blob.

I do believe things are well in-hand here, unless you all have any further questions of me at the moment? The Druid puts his hands to his hips casually, turning now his face toward the direction of the city. But, back at the others, of course, to see if there was aught else to discuss before dispersing.

- Session End -

XP will be awarded and synopsis put up within the next two days; free posting for anyone that wants to put in a little more chat with Wareish pre-supper, at which there will be a follow-on announced at a later date! Thank you all!

With the mass now dealt with

With the mass now dealt with there was a wash of relief. Though Moreaaiwe still could not help but to look down and check her feet to ensure that there was no sinking being done...

"After this little demonstration, any immediate signs I am sure the nearby farmers will pick up on the idea. But aye as Jessica has mentioned we will be sure to spread the word."

She nodded her head about meeting once more after a couple of days. "Who knows perhaps if any sailor should happen to overhear they may have an inkling about the shipment which brought us this." She said with a little gesture towards where the blob once was.

Sephtis looked to Jess

Sephtis looked to Jess somewhat skeptically as she spoke. "I fail to see how there would be any alternative with which to punish the person responsible. Any punishment short of death would be a mercy, and there is little room for mercy when lives are at stake." She said, sternly, yet calmly. "If you lack the stomach to kill the person responsible I will gladly do it for you." She added, her tone holding no judgement in it despite the rather harsh choice of words.

"I do not believe we have met. No. I am Sephtis. It is a pleasure to meet you all. Though I feel that now is not the time for introductions while this problem still persists."

As Wareish addressed her she quickly turned her attention to him, shaking her head softly. "It matters little if it is truly undead when the result is as it is." She said with a little shrug, though did see to take the man's words into consideration. "If the one responsible for this has truly survived even one death their prolonged existence is all the more dangerous. To threaten the natural order of life and death is to risk the lives of all living things."

The blob seemed to be dealt with for the most part, thankfully. Though she would no doubt remain in the area for a time simply making sure that no other pieces of the fruit remained. In the mean time it seemed Wareish was intending to set up a meeting in the future, and Jess had even suggested a place to do just that. "I would indeed like to know more about what is truly happening. Though I have little to offer in the way of information. Before today I had no idea such a problem even existed in this city."

Jess breathes a little easier

Jess breathes a little easier seeing the mass go down with their combined efforts all tearing into it in different ways. She finally leaves the flames to their own ends, watching the last of them just to make sure nothing else squirrely erupts on the scene.

"We'll get the word out, make sure folks keep an eye on the crop to make sure they get all the awful sort sorted out."

"And a couple days sounds just right by me. Figger if nothin' else, let's meet up at the Red Sky, down by the docks in the city? Might be good to get back to where all this started, least on the local front. Plus the sailors'll be too blitzed to cause any kinda panic if we happen to get overheard."

Wareish regards the Nethar's

Wareish regards the Nethar's hammer-tongued words with a look of attentiveness; it is the word "unlife" that raises one eyebrow, but he nods along with "malicious". He offers a brief smile of agreement, of sorts.

To call it undead is not quite the word. It is a... quickening of decay, though the situation is far more complicated. Though, I believe, the responsible one has already met their fate at least twice, in written history, or so some believed...

At about that time, both Sephtis' portal and Jess' Mo-boosted flames both seem to catch up in intensity from the previous efforts. The bonfire wicks extend, and patches of darker grey to black begin showing underneath the blob, some parts eventually lighting aflame, but slowly. Meanwhile, the enlargened portal begins drawing more of the mass into itself, causing it to recede, though the Neth might not see her handiwork through the middle of the mass. Wareish notices, though, and hums in surprised approval.

Well, it seems that it won't be long for this farm plot. I trust the others around here can recognize a bad apple, or a rotten ear of corn and know to burn it, as you have. But, it seems, a meeting will be in order - perhaps in one to two days, enough for you all to gather your thoughts and your notes, as I shall mine? Though, I am not certain where we could mutually agree to sup?

"Excellent." She as Wareish

"Excellent." She as Wareish spoke of the raven managing to remain well behaved and help quicken the journey to the scene.

She reached on over and gave Scaramouche a bit of a scritch upon his chest tuff as a means for a quick reward for managing to have performed so well.
Though upon hearing a confirmation that the source may be the same Moreaaiwe couldn't help but frown, she had suspected but still a tiny part of her had hoped that perhaps this was just something unto itself.
"I had feared, but wasn't sure..." She murmured.

She nodded as Wareish mentioned sharing the information over a more pleasent setting. "A rather good idea. I also have the copies of what we found in some of the books in the Mage Guild as well."

Then as the others went to handle the remains of the blob, she worked what song she could wave for the two of them to help bolster their magical prowess in the hopes of making quick work before it could make that sinking part of her vision come to pass.

As she was singing she did afford a quick nod as Jess gave Sephtis a short introduction as they had worked.

Jess nods along, turning her

Jess nods along, turning her focus back to stoking the flames and hopefully getting the focus she's been lacking. "'Fire good,' got it. Count me in fer that supper, don't rightly feel like I've been pulling my weight on this particular caper. This latest bit o' mischief caught be completely by surprise. I'd like fer that not to be the case a second time..."

She breathes out slow, nodding to Sephtis appreciatively for the magical assist tending to the blob. Her words about finishing off whoever's responsible do draw a concerned look from the firebrand, though. "Ain't saying I don't understand where yer coming from, but let's work on finding 'em first, then we can sort through what to do with 'em after."

"Also I apologize if we've met and I've straight fergotten - I'm Jess. That there's Mo, and the fella poking the stuff is Wareish. He's from outta town."

A grin began to spread across

A grin began to spread across Sephtis' face as the blob began to collapse in on itself. The fact that not a moment before this the straw had finally caught alight only served to further encourage her in her current course. The combination of the efforts was doing quite well, though she still felt there was more to be done.

While the others spoke with the druid, her attention stayed on the portal. Or, more specifically, widening it to make sure it would swallow as much of the blob as it possibly could. Only then would she allow the fire to take care of whatever would remain.

By the time all that was done, Wareish was explaining what the plants were. Which quickly got a response from Sephtis. "As is always the case when one toys with unlife. Whether they see it as a curse or not, it is nothing but. Though this was quite intentionally malicious instead of foolishly reckless. A troubling notion to be sure." As she spoke her expression hardened as she glanced back in the direction of the fire. "Whoever is responsible deserves whatever horrible fate will no doubt swiftly come to them. More swiftly still not that I am aware of their actions."

She had little information, so she stayed silent as the others talked about the details. The offer of dinner was met with a shrug. "I have not found your kind to be a disagreeable lot. We in fact agree on more than one might expect. But I should tell you now that I will not rest until the person responsible for this abominable display lies dead. If you take issue with this I would assume you have little wish for me to join you for dinner."

The druid takes a few steps

The druid takes a few steps toward the receding blob, going so far as to reach his hand out to touch it briefly. he neither flinches nor recoils from any sensation that the others may have felt earlier, but he does step back to regard Jessica's questions first.

These are cursed plants, here. Not permanent, but not helpful. Meant to keep food stocks low as a matter of ... spite. I can only say that fire is good for this, now, as I cannot simply make it go away. It is decay, fast and contagious, if left to melt into the ground.

Wareish shakes his head at Moreaiiwe, giving a nod to her raven. No, we met just outside the city. I had heard calls even before he came out here, of something strange happening to the plants out here at the farms. I was on my way to see for myself, when he came and made me go faster.

With the details that Mo was providing, he could only nod along, using her information, and any of Jess', Sephtis', or Declan's confirmations to ponder over what he knows.

It has been some time since any of these maladies struck. And, though the leaf is a different symbol from last year, the source, I suspect, is the same. I have managed to visit the ... peculiar libraries, and I do believe I have some information, though I would prefer we discuss matters over, say, a light supper, preferably void of any Candenord ingredients? Once the fire finishes consuming the current problem, of course...

For a moment there Mo was

For a moment there Mo was really starting to worry as it seemed Jess was having a bit of trouble lighting up the fire again. That could be rather problematic among the rest of the potential issues. However finally a spark got going and Mo was feeling a bit more relieved, returning the nod from Jess with one of her own.

For now the plan seemed to be working as the blob appeared to be shrinking, even just a little in comparison.
And then came a little chours of caws and shrill return of a sea-gull, it would seem her messenger was successful in his task.

Once the raven was in range she would hold up her arm for him to land upon to make his hop to settle on his shoulder before going and greeting Wareish.
"Ah excellent, I am glad to see Scaramouche was able to find you WAreish. Hopefully he wasn't too much trouble on the way back."

She nodded a little bit as Wareish took in the site of the blob and his question.
"So far it seems everyone has remained unharmed. Not entirely sure what the origins of, this she said with a slight gesture towards the blob was, but I did glean a bit of something which seemed that it may have been of interest to tell you." With that she would go into the details of what she had seen in her visions when she divined, in the hopes her hunches had been right so far, and to fill him in.

With Declan marveling that he

With Declan marveling that he can work well under the kind of pressure that only a giant sentient blob can bring, he has his copy. He tucks it more carefully into his pocket as he stays back a distance. Something just still skeeves him out, but with the timely intervention of the others, it seems to be well taken care of. Whatever immediate danger was brewing seems to slowly be settling down.

Keeping his eyes on the blob and on those working on it, he skirts his way around the scene, taking a moment to study it from a few angles as best he could. Watching it deflate like that was unusual. Something about it almost reminded him of baking. Of course the fires could be what's triggering that particular thought for him. But the sinking almost reminds him of a handful of failed souffle attempts over the years...

He gives a quick (and very grateful) nod to Jess and Moreaaiwe and the others working to bring the blob under control. They were fast on their feet and he knows that it could have been much messier without speedy intervention. Once he spots Sephtis once more he will also give her a thankful nod. She was quick to banish several of the masses, and it was very good work.

With that, he will start making his way through the crowd, looking to make sure that if anyone needs aid, he can help out a bit. But otherwise he's going to attempt to get back to the farmer from earlier and make sure that they're ok.

Just sort of a mosey this round on the off chance that health reasons mean this is my last post. Hopefully not, but if so, Thank you so very much for the exquisite session and RP! This was so much fun! :D

Jess breathes a sigh of

Jess breathes a sigh of relief that at least the fire didn't send things immediately pear-shaped, sparing a nod for Mo's rousing song. Clearly she herself overdid it in the easy-does-it category, but luckily they're not alone in working against the blob.

When the gull and Wareish arrive, Jess spends a good few moments gobsmacked, wondering if the mere mention of his name summoned the druid here, or if Mo has talents she hasn't seen fit to share yet. Putting a pin in the latter question, she keeps a portion of her attention on the fire, hoping to see to the end of the blob slowly but surely with help from the other casters in the area.

"Wareish! ...Wareish, right? Sorry, my mind's not hardly sitting still today. Nobody hurt directly, near as I can tell, but a lot of spoiled crops and spoiled tempers to go with 'em."

"Don't suppose you can help us put this, uh...whatever this is all the way back in the bottle, so to speak? I'm a little wary o' turning up the heat till we know more 'bout what'll happen."

These developments all happen

These developments all happen fairly quickly; in that, moments after the blob settled and shrank, Scaramouche's cries can be heard hailing Mo from a Ramsalonian direction once again. After each caw, is another gull-call, and it's not long until both are back at the center of events. The raven returns to his favored spot with Moreaaiwe, while the gull lands roughly amid the group of people near the bonfire. Most of the common folk, finding a seagull rather strange out here on the farms, give it some space before it turns into a tall-ish,
dark-haird man garbed in thick, foreign leathers that Mo and Jess might recognize as Wareish, despite the near year and a half since he's last been around by most accounts. He is staring at the blob, for obvious reasons,
with a gaze that belies his natural surprise and shock.

And, even though it's been a year and a half, he does manage to speak with a thick accent, in hard-learned Ramsalonian.

I see that things are again moving from the east, though I have not heard from the Council as yet. I trust nobody was hurt?

There is a brambled ranch tucked into his belt, near a pouch, but he does not reach for either at this point, preferring to hear about the current situation before making his own move.

Free posting for a few turns, and I will work with any interactions or questions that come up until we are done!

Despite the growing dread

Despite the growing dread Declan may feel as the blob continues to settle on a wider base girth, his re-attempt at recording the symbol on the boxes fares much better. He's able to get it with enough detail to make it stand out from anything that might even be remotely similar, and just in time for his feet to carry him more of a safe distance away from The Thing. He now has a well-scribed copy of the decaying leaf on his crumpled sheet of paper.

Jessica huffs and puffs, mentally, but something isn't quite catching at first try. It's about the point of no good,
when Moreaaiwe's song reaches the firebrand's ear, giving Jess just enough of a boost to finally catch a corner of straw on fire, underneath the blob. This one takes, and will begin to move inward on the crude framework, just under the mass of bad goop.

Septhis' supplication garners a reaction of a different sort - near the center of the blob, a portion of it seems to collapse in on itself, losing the conical "hat" it once wore.
Some of the material immediately around it also shrinks inward, pulling the outer fringes of the mass back a few feet from its edge. This, of course, stops the growth of the blob, but the Neth will need to concentrate a little more to further reverse the rotten growth.

The fact that the thing

The fact that the thing seemed susceptible enough to being smashed was somewhat encouraging at least. It meant more means of disposal. At least with the smaller bits. Though the ever growing panic by the fire made it quite apparent just how much the giant blob was truly a problem. Even moreso as the circle of decay grew ever larger with each passing moment.

For the moment she ignored the tingling sensation on her cheek. Though this was more because her attention was drawn elsewhere than intentionally doing so. Stepping closer to the giant blob and the attempt at a fire beneath it she raised her pace, pointing it at the blob before speaking. "Great Ones, I call to thee. It is by your divine judgement and mercy that all life shall remain. Such an abomination defies your holiness, thus I ask you to take it from our world."

As she finished her prayer she focused her attention on creating a portal within the blob itself. Should all go according to plan, and the Great Ones grant her their favor she hoped to cause the blob to spill forth into the portal and effectively collapse in on itself. Which in turn would hopefully make it easier to destroy the remainder.

It would seem that today she

It would seem that today she had no rousing words to move folks to action. Unfortunately she had no clue on hand how to break up the mass as the people backed away. Though she couldn't blame folks for not wanting to get closer with a giant blob of what is basically rot. At least they seemed more focused on staying away from the growing rot blob then each other.

Scaramouche had been sent on his task. And she had nothing else to throw at this thing as she fear it would cause a bit more splatter which would just cause it to spread a bit uncontroled. Something she wished to avoid for the time being.

Though as Jessica stepped up to try and work her flame she would try and assist the fiery one as best she could, but provided a hopefully a bit of a boost to the woman's magical mojo.

Just for clarification - buffing the magics. ;)

With all the chaos around him

With all the chaos around him, Declan's more distracted than he realized. As he takes stock of the image before him, it looks like he took a go at off hand finger painting while drunk... Really drunk.

Crumpling the paper with a sigh so soft only he hears it, he gets back to trying again. This time he hopes to be a little more careful. He doesn't know what they're up against, but at the end of it all, he just hopes to be able to get some clues to give to those who can use them. Cause all this has him feeling really creeped out. He hasn't felt that sort of 'chilly hand on the back of his neck' in a long time. And he doesn't want to be constantly fearing food in the future.

As that attempt is finished, Declan doesn't have much of a choice in backing up. His feet are carrying him away from the blob just like the other onlookers. There's a sort of existential horror taking root in his chest. And though normally his face is a calm masque to hide his feelings, the look is all too clear now.

He's sufficiently skeeved out by the blob. And it's really obvious that he is not comfortable being so close. "What in the..." His words die on his lips as he just shakes his head in horror at the scene unfolding in front of him.

Gathering what other spoiled

Gathering what other spoiled remnants she finds, Jess heeds Mo's words and finds a new site to pile them, waving over similar gatherers to start up another, smaller bonfire elsewhere to keep from concentrating the goop too much in one place.

With that started, she heads back to the first bonfire, eyeing the blob warily. "...awright, everybody take another couple steps back, take a deep breath and maybe hold it a spell, I'ma try something and I'm not rightly sure if it'll solve the problem, so much as give it ideas. Here goes nothin'..."

Once folks have another chance to take a step back, Jess takes a deep breath herself and tries to stoke the bonfire, seeing if she can't coax the heat that's there up enough to consume the goopy fuel before it can otherwise manifest something unfriendly toward the people gathered here.

It might just aerosolize the stuff which could lead to all manner of fun, but hopefully they'll have a chance to get clear of the cloud if that comes to pass.

Scaramouche is quick to

Scaramouche is quick to respond to his master's call, and Moreaaiwe's instructions are understood and acknowledged with a confident CAW! The raven takes wing, heading back in the direction of the city in search of the druid in question. As the raven flies, it won't take long, just not immediate.

Past her vision at that point, Mo gets a sense that the folks around hadn't changed much in the last few moments - maybe some confusion at the bonfire site due to a lack thereof and a slow realization on the part of some of why it's taking so long.

The bonfire blob, itself, isn't supremely large; perhaps eight or so feet high and ten feet wide, a haphazard cone that is settling more towards its base. That is causing it to spread out in a rough circle, perhaps one to two paces every ten seconds or so. Farmers and bystanders nearby begin to back away with the fear of the unknown.

- Go -

One to two more "rounds" and we'll be back to free-post.

Jessica is able to spot a few

Jessica is able to spot a few more bad apples, so to speak, along her perimeter perusal. The one eye on the fire will show her that it seems slow on the up-take; whatever mass that was forming out of what was already there seemed to either be immune, or smothering their attempts to light the straw underneath. And, as long as she doesn't spend -too- long picking up what spoiled produce she finds, the tingle will not go back to her fingers like before.

Declan's attempt to copy down the symbol he's seeing on the boxes goes a bit awry - a line here too long, a swish there too short, but if he compares what he has to what's on a nearby box, it will not be a close match at all.
He still has time to put a little more work into it, if he so desires.

Sephtis' poke-pound-pulverize earns her a good splattering of a strange gourd she had right next to her -
some of it gets on her cheek to where that tingly sensation sets in on the Neth. So, at least as far as that went, her question was answered - where some of it had hit the ground, there doesn't seem to be any immediate spoilage.

Sephtis' response to Declan

Sephtis' response to Declan was little more than a simply nod in return and a determined look. While her tone and demeanor had been rather stern, she seemed to hold no ill will as she stepped away, one hand patting the man on the shoulder as she did so. Whatever it was he saw fit to do in response to this, she would let him get to it. In the mean time she would have other things to focus on.

As she walked along the now mostly abandoned stalls and saw what lay in the wake of the crowd her brow furrowed. It seemed the decay intended to spread. A fact which made the idea of bringing all the spoiled produce together a rather worrying concept. Though what was worse was how much more difficult a problem this would be to deal with with that being the case.

Pulling her mace from her side Sephtis poked lightly at one of the nearest fruits or vegetable. After a moment she quickly brought the top of her mace's head down upon the spoiled produce. Crushing it in the process. At which point she simply took a moment to observe, hoping to see if one could truly deal with the things in a more conventional means.

It seemed like a half relief

It seemed like a half relief that the smell didn't seem to point to anything that he could remember. There were lots of caustic smells he would rather never revisit. So as long as this seemed to be fine by his nose, he was very relieved by that.

As Sephtis spoke, Declan simply nodded to show he understood the sincerity of her words. "Of course." He said with a step to the side. He wouldn't ever have considered actively impeding the woman. After all she seemed deadset on her course of action. He'd lived long enough to know better than to get between something like that.

But although he didn't intend to hinder Sephtis's goal of purging the problem, he also wanted to know a bit more what they were actually up against. So far he'd been a bit baffled by the particular cause of this outbreak. And sometimes the best way to make sure something never comes back is to understand the source of it as well as it's symptoms.

As the symbol caught his eye, Declan was even more curious. To have so many different vendors all with the same symbol as the source of their produce... It was a curious thing given that the farmer had explained that they had a bumper crop of a year. It seemed like if that were the case they might have had more than one source for the packing of the produce. He quickly reached into his pocket and pulled out the small notepad he'd been using earlier to tally orders.

Risking a bit of a singe, Declan got as close to the bonfire as he could without getting too hot. He wanted to try to copy down that symbol. He was sure it had to mean something, and even if not, it had to at least be some clue to this mystery.

Of course this puts him close enough that as the mass starts to join together, he's just able to see it. With a big step backward as he hears Moreaaiwe talking to the assembled crowd, he just hopes that others will heed her advice and stop bringing more fuel to the mass.

Roll to see if he can copy down that ashy symbol on the boxes before they all get tossed out.

At the sight of the vision

At the sight of the vision she had receieved, a confused brow rose, even has she happened to hop in place as she reactively tried to escape the sinking feeling. This had her a bit perplexed, but then she was a bit lacking in the experience for this.

After a quick look at her feet and a stumble about to make sure she was indeed not sinking anywhere, just in time to see a bit of fussing going on with the bonfire. Watching it just for the briefest of moments to let her kind of catch on to what may be going on.

"Oh dear..." She muttered, while she wasn't entirely sure, just between what she saw and what was now happening, she had a bit of the feeling that perhaps gathering all the 'rotting' produce was not the best of things.

She tries to catch Jessica before she gets off too far. "If you find anymore of the produce with that rot, or crates with like a leaf symbol she would draw it out in the air for Jessica. Try and put it somewhere away from the rest of anything else. I have a feeling its a rather bad idea to gather it all together..."

With that she lets out a sharp whistle to help get the attention of a certain raven. Once Scaramouche was in the range for her orders she would send the bird off to her best guess to see if they could get ahold of a druid whom hopefully would have some advise.

Afterwards it was back to attending the issue at hand...the growing mass of rot. "Try not to add any more to it. I think it is just making it worse, if it continues it may cause the ground itself to decay. Do we have anything we could try storing parts of this in? Buckets and the sorts, anything to separate it out really."

Jess breathes a sigh of

Jess breathes a sigh of relief that the smoke from the fire hasn't climbed high enough yet to be an aerial threat, at least. She's only half-listening to Mo, rubbing the tips of her fingers together where they'd previously felt the tingling sensation from the strange fruit.

"I think yer right about our druid friend - once we get this settled, I'll swing by VC and let him know the story. Hopefully he's still fitting in fine out there." She nods about the traveling infection, turning her attention back to the stalls where the bonfire's current fuel came from. "Good thinkin', I'll do a sweep to make sure it ain't spread. These folks've lost enough already."

She heads to the perimeter of the pavilion and looks for a basket as she goes stall by stall to check to signs of the local fare carrying the same foulness as the foreign stock, collecting any infected samples to add to the bonfire. She keeps an eye on the fire itself from afar, just in case the smoke becomes a concern. Fire's her natural element, she knows its dangers intimately, although in this case fire seems like the least of their worries...

Which, of course, brings us

Which, of course, brings us to what's going on with the bonfire. The stream of angry produce-bringers begins to trickle off as word hadn't spread quite out to all the edges of the market space just yet. Several helpers remain behind to try and light small patches of dry hay on fire in the corners, with limited success in catching any of the hay underneath. But, perhaps what's dulling that is that the bonfire's ground is also getting the drained treatment.

Amplifying this, though, is the fact that what's piled up for burning seems to be melding into a singular, albeit large mass of discarded fruits and vegetables. It is as though whatever rot it might be experiencing, at least for the ground, is accelerating, though the things to be burned were not at all reducing. Onlookers begin to show their worry at the sight of it.

- Go -

Declan, through scent and

Declan, through scent and sight, cannot determine if the wisps of smoke from the as-yet-young fire begin to waft into the air; farmers and buyers alike continue to work on building the pyre up with as much of the Candenord stock as they could find or remember having. What may catch his eye, though, are that enough of the boxes that pass him on the way there have a sort of symbol not-quite-burned, but more ... greyed into them. It's half of a leaf, with the other half in tatters.

For Jessica, the usual patterns of birds in the sky for this time of year greet her as darker splotches against the backdrop of the above. Again, the fire isn't quite up to roaring just yet, so things are safe, for now...

Moreaaiwe, flexing her divinations toward some of the fruit before it leaves from nearby toward the fire... she is met with a sensation. Her feet will feel like they are sinking slightly into the ground, where once, as she was standing, it had seemed firm. The smell of the fruit seems amplified, for a moment, as though nearly a full ton of it were concentrated right around her. Boxes passing by her, like Declan, would stand out more prominently with the same symbol that he had seen of the leaf.

Sephtis' glances around garner the obvious leave-behinds that resulted from a hasty decision to take things to the fire - folks, in their rush, dropped or missed quite a bit, actually. But, she will also notice that for those bits that actually touch the ground, splotches of lifeless ground are beginning to radiate from underneath. It's not happening rapidly.

Sephtis stayed silent as the

Sephtis stayed silent as the farmer spoke, simply raising her hand and getting rid of the corrupted fruit without a word. Once it was gone she lowered her hand once more before looking to Declan and the farmer. "Unless you wish to help with the expulsion of these abominations I suggest you do not get in my way." She stated rather matter of factly.

With the others now gathering around the fire it was at least easy to know where things were being taken. Whether the fire was able to deal with such a thing or not was still to be seen. Though it seemed it would, there was no telling when it came to magic.

With the fire currently being used to deal with much of the affected fruit, Sephtis turned her attention elsewhere. Namely looking to all the currently unattended fruits and vegetables for any that might have been missed. If they were to be rid of this blight, then no single affected item could remain.

Not some of her best work all

Not some of her best work all in all but it did seem to help speed along a bit of calm among the immediate crowd around them. While discontent over suddenly rotten fruit is understandable, it at least now looked like they were willing to do voice such dues without trampling over those that may have been victims in all of this as well.

With that done she rejoined Jessica, walking along as the woman helps with the hauling bit.
A sigh of slight frustration as she was coming up a bit blank on it all, she simply shrugged to Jessica. "Being honest I can't tell if this is actually related to what happened with the seagulls, but I wouldn't be surprised if the druid would want to know about this. Especially considering the farmers did give out some boxes of produce to the farmers here. It was a Candenordian hauler, however I couldn't quite pick on on where such sabotaging would have happened. I just know it wasn't here in Ramsalon."

As Jessica mentioned the tingling as she had picked up the a thoughtful hum escaped from Moreaaiwe. "That could be any number of things sadly. This does seem a bit different from the fungus like thing that had overtaken the seaguls. In that regards they were seeking to infect others through contact spreading it as such. That appears to be missing so far, just some kind of rot and the vines..." With a quick rub of her temples as she thought aloud.

"Don't suppose if you have seen any sign of any of the more local stuff showing any indication that it may have whatever was 'given' from the Candenordian haulers as well? For if nothing else has been then we at least know what all to isolate "

When she is afforded the chance before it would be to go to the fire, she would try and see if she could get anymore from the 'tainted' fruit as it would seem she had ran out of ideas for the time being.
